Summary

• A vulnerability in the OLE2 file format parser of ClamAV could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device.

  This vulnerability is due to an incorrect check for end-of-string values during scanning, which may result in a heap buffer over-read. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting a crafted file containing OLE2 content to be scanned by ClamAV on an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the ClamAV scanning process to terminate, resulting in a DoS condition on the affected software and consuming available system resources.

• Impacts of ClamAV DoS Vulnerability on Windows Platforms

  This vulnerability, which has a High Security Impact Rating (SIR), affects only Windows-based platforms because those platforms run the ClamAV scanning process as a service that could enter a loop condition, which would consume available CPU resources and delay or prevent further scanning operations.   This vulnerability could allow an attacker to cause Cisco Secure Endpoint Connector for Windows to enter a loop and stop responding, resulting in a DoS condition. Cisco Secure Endpoint Connector for Windows, which is distributed from Cisco Secure Endpoint Private Cloud, is affected by this vulnerability.

  2. Affected releases of Cisco Secure Endpoint Connector clients for Cisco Secure Endpoint Private Cloud have been updated in the connectors repository. Customers will get these connector updates through normal content update processes.

  The Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) validates only the affected and fixed release information that is documented in this advisory.
